When we talk about following Jesus, we’re never talking about doing it alone. Faith is personal, yes but it’s also deeply communal. And it’s rooted in a story God has been telling for generations through his people and his Word.
At Christ-Centered Sexuality, we believe the Church and the Scriptures are essential to that story.
The Church: A Place to Belong
The Church isn’t a building. It’s not just a Sunday morning event. It’s a people—a worldwide community of those who follow Jesus. The Bible uses some rich, beautiful language to help us understand what this means:
- Ekklesia — a Greek word meaning “called out ones.” The Church is made up of people God has called out of darkness and into his light. This connects the Old and New Testament people of God into one big redemptive story.
- The Body of Christ — This reminds us that we’re not just for Jesus; we’re in Jesus, and he’s in us. His life flows through us as we live together in unity, each part needed and valuable.
- The Household of God — The Church is a family. Not a perfect one—but a real one. We’re meant to find belonging here. A place to be known, to grow, and to walk alongside others who are also being transformed by grace.
Being part of the Church isn’t just an obligation—it’s a gift. It’s where we worship, wrestle, learn, serve, grieve, celebrate, and become more like Christ together.
Scripture: God’s Voice in Written Form
We believe the Bible is more than just an ancient book. It’s God’s Word—alive, trustworthy, and powerful. And while it was written by human hands in a variety of contexts, it was inspired by the Holy Spirit in every part.
Here’s what we believe about Scripture:
- It’s inspired — God breathed life into it. The words of Scripture carry his Spirit and have the power to transform our lives.
- It’s inerrant — Everything God intended to communicate is true. There’s no error in what it teaches us about who God is, who we are, and how we’re called to live.
- It’s infallible — It can’t lead us astray. When we follow what it says, we’re following truth.
- It’s sufficient — God has given us everything we need in the Bible to know him and live a life that honors him. We don’t need secret knowledge or extra revelations to be whole and faithful.
- It’s authoritative — To trust Scripture is to trust God. And when we obey it, we’re not just following a rulebook—we’re responding to the voice of the One who loves us and knows what’s best for us.
God’s Word helps us see clearly in a world full of noise. It anchors us when we’re unsure. It convicts, comforts, and gives us hope.
If we believe these things—about the Church and the Scriptures—then they should shape the way we live.
Be the Church
Don’t just attend. Participate. Invest in real relationships. Join a small group, serve on a team, ask hard questions, forgive people, and let yourself be known. The Church isn’t perfect—but it is precious. You were never meant to follow Jesus alone.
Read the Scriptures
Not just occasionally or when you’re in crisis. Let the Word of God become your daily food, your anchor, and your compass. Don’t worry about having all the right tools—just open the pages and begin. God will meet you there.
These aren’t just good habits—they’re essential rhythms for anyone who wants to walk closely with Christ. The Church and the Word are gifts. Let’s receive them with joy—and live into them with intention.
